19 of Daniil Medvedev's 21 victories have been earned on hardcourt

A revitalized Medvedev secured his initial trophy for nearly 30 months with victory over Frenchman Moutet in the competition championship match.

The athlete, a former top-ranked player, has endured a difficult season, winning just one win at the Grand Slams and experiencing a difficult moment at the New York tournament.

The player's unpredictability on the ATP Tour - and struggles with his service game in particular - led to him dropping out of the elite rankings and finally separating with long-time mentor Gilles Cervara.

Now training with his coach and Rohan Goetzke, he has consistently advanced in the last few weeks - peaking in a closely contested competitive triumph over challenger Moutet.

This marks Medvedev's maiden title after the Rome competition and first on a hardcourt from spring of 2023.

The win also means the Russian has won 21 victories at 21 various tournaments.

"This marks the first occasion I have attended a competition with my children simultaneously, so to get a trophy is really nice," said tennis professional Medvedev.

"This championship is in honour of my younger daughter her name, because the initial championship I achieved when my older daughter my daughter was born was for her."

Medvedev, the 2021 US Open champion, had been defeated in his last six title deciders, featuring in the German tournament earlier this year.

Medvedev's retrieving approach and frequent reactions on court had caused some to doubt if his capacity to compete at the highest level was finished.

However the player has altered his approach in the past month, making an effort to approach the net and compete assertively, reinforced by an better serving game.

Medvedev came back from a break down in the opening set against the challenging opponent, securing 4 of the last five points to take the lead.

The competitors traded break points in the middle set before the challenger, bidding for his maiden professional victory, seized the initiative to push for a decider.

Moutet defended 4 early opportunities in a tight deciding set before the Russian broke to 15 to serve for the match.

Fittingly, Medvedev clinched victory with a rally at the front of the court, with the Frenchman failing to control a shot after a lengthy match.
